The Viking Museum Ladby opens its doors for brand new exhibitions and cozy summer family activities

Jun 28, 2021

As something completely new, the Viking Museum Ladby exhibits a horse riding prince tomb from Rosenlund at Langeskov. “The new Viking tomb” and the Ladby King’s burial ship are reconstructed in the basement of the museum.

The original burial findings from both the Ladby King’s tomb and the horse riding prince’s tomb are exhibited alongside the reconstructions and provide fantastic insight into the absolute highest social strata of the Viking Age.

Department manager Claus Frederik Sørensen says:

“It has been important to us that you can now get closer to the magnificent burial findings and really study the fantastic details, that can be seen on them. AND these are fantastic details, where the well-known patterns, motifs, etc. of the Viking Age now stands out quite clearly. It’s so wild – and it’s completely okay to flatten your nose against the glass in order to comprehend it all. That you can experience the two reconstructions at the same time, leads the visitor all the way back to the Viking Age, and you really get the feeling of being part of the burial of the two princes”.

In addition, the exhibition “The World of the Ladby King” has gotten a proper upgrade and is now filled with magnificent findings from the Viking Age from all over East Funen.

Department manager Claus Frederik Sørensen says:

“There is perhaps a tendency in the Danish world of museums that the fewer findings the better, and that it is completely different parameters that must support our exhibitions – that is not how we think it should be. When working with the Viking Age, and even in an area as rich in Viking Age history as East Funen, everyone – old and young – must have the opportunity to get close to the incredibly beautiful and almost unreal objects”.

A museum for the whole family

The museum’s live communication is once again booming this year, and the old as well as the young now have the opportunity for a nice and fun experience in the beautiful, scenic areas at Kerteminde Nor – right at the water’s edge.

Family activities of the summer holiday – Monday (lunar day), Tuesday (Tyr’s day), Wednesday (Odin’s day) and Thursday (Thor’s day) from 11 am to 3 pm. Here you and your family can bake flatbread, shoot with a bow and arrow and take part in a cutting workshop.

At Friday 11 am there is a tour by the inspector of the museum.

The activities run from week 26 – 31.
