The Big Rock Burials at Lindeskov
Some of the first generations of farmers in Denmark built what we collectively call “The Big Rock Burials” – which are dolmens and burial chambers. Tens of thousands have been in the Danish landscape, but only a few remain. By Lindeskov near Ellested on East Funen is a particularly well-preserved and exciting cluster. Were the earth- and stone-built mounds listed as burial mounds, landscape markers, temples, or mortuaries? With base in the Lindeskov hills, the story is told about why people in the centuries around 3500 BC. moved tons of heavy rocks and huge amounts of soil around the landscape to erect these increasingly rare memorials. The event takes place as part of the Remembrance Day.
Tour leader is museum curator Malene Refshauge Beck, East Funen Museums, and museum curator Mogens Bo Henriksen, Odense City Museums.
